And we export what? $6.4 Billion of war toys to Taiwan. China could swat Taiwan like a gnat. BTW, anyone checking the containers coming in from China? No need to, you know you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Considering that we prop up "monarchs" in the Middle East and their people live lives of desperation is it any wonder there are a lot of pissed off Arabs? Take Iraq for instance, production of 3.5 million barrels a day @ $70 a barrel would provide an annual income for every man, woman and child of $3,726. When you spend upwards of $18 Billion on weapons (Saudi total) and dole out $ Billions to sons, daughters, wives, uncles and cousins, it tends to cut into the $3,726. BTW about those Iraqi chemical weapons:

Just watched the movie "Invictus" produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, the South African rugby team captain. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. I also wanted to read the entire poem, "Invictus" and find out more about Nelson Mandela, his 27 years in prison and what he did to deserve such a severe sentence. The CIA had a hand in his arrest in 1962 and by my summation of the CIA, the US Senate, corporate, industrial and banking interests and our own proclivity for racism. ('Welcome to America, now clean our toilets') I was pretty sure the US was definitely on the wrong side of apartheid. We have yet to ratify sanctions against apartheid and the reason the US Ambassador gave at the time are as pathetic as our rationalization&am ...

Could $292,000 pay for a college or trade school education, room and board? Subsidize a young person until they could land a good job? With the change left over, could it pay to make high school more hospitable to the poor? For public works projects? For more teachers? Research and development? We ignore the needs of young people at a terrible cost. And yes, it does take a village. What are the economic effects of 1.2 million high school dropouts per year? At $7,300 per student, that amounts to $8.76 billion a year, year two adds another 1.2 million students and becomes $17.52 billion, ad infinitum. Can we solve the problem? Can we afford not to? What can you buy with $8.76 billion? How about 175,200 teachers at $50 K a pop, that's one teacher for every 7 dropouts. MC

Cheney Calls Interrogation Inquiry ‘Political’
By BRIAN KNOWLTON
WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dick Cheney asserted on Sunday that the Justice Department’s decision to review detainee interrogation practices by Central Intelligence Agency workers and contractors was “a political move” and that President Obama was trying to “duck the responsibility” by saying the choice was the attorney general’s.
But the comments from Mr. Cheney, a constant, sharp critic of the Obama administration, drew an impassioned if partial dissent from a prominent fellow Republican, Senator John McCain, their party’s presidential c ...

On July the 20th 1969, I was on my 20th day of Ranger school, earth was kicking my ass and winning. I wasn't aware that man had landed on the moon until I watched the second landing, Apollo 12, November 19, 1969, while recovering from malaria at 5th Convalescence Center, Cam Ranh Bay, S. Vietnam. Apollo 12 Audio From what I remember, the astronauts seemed goofy and irreverent in relation to the honor bestowed upon them and the fact that most of the world was watching. The audio seems to bear this out.
I'm sure that I lacked, for whatever reason, the necessary empathy for the danger they had, were and would yet endure. I had not yet questioned the motives and morality of the war I and 500,000 other Americans soldiers, sailors and airmen were engaged in, however the sufficient knowledge and conviction was not far away. I was definitely and profoundly aware of the stench, brutality and a newfound appreciation for the finality of death. The complete divorce from the levity and ...
